No, this is not the beginning of a joke. The hairdresser, the pharmacist, and the planner are going to celebrate their job satisfaction.
According to U.S. News and World Report's Best Careers of 2008, Urban Planner makes the top 31. The careers were selected based on job satisfaction, required training, and job market outlook. Check out where other careers stack up here.
Conversely, Architect was rated as one of the most overrated jobs (although, interestingly, the same mag listed it as a Best Career a year ago). Architects, planners, what do you think?

New patrol boat to protect subs in Sound
Perhaps this can be a use for the blog. Sharing news with each other (like John's interesting discussion of retail supporting housing which I tried to get him to post).

bike to work...or else!
May is national Bike to Work Month. For the second year in a row, Makers has registered to participate in Group Health's Bike to Work Challenge. A slight increase in office participation warranted two teams: Makers Mobile Unit, which is headed up by Dara, and Two Wheels Good, captained by Wes. Each participant must ride to and fro work at least five times over the course of the month to be qualified. Tonight two Makersians will be attending the Captains Bash at Pike Brewery where they will rub spandex elbows and laud the benefits of designated bike lanes with other Challenge participants.
Stay tuned to see which team is in the lead. Pedal on...
